The method described can be applied to all types of water with a BOD5 of at least 3 mg/l and of not more than 250 mg/l. Samples with a BOD5 of more than 250 mg/l may be examined after a preliminary dilution, due allowance being made for the common dilution errors, which may be considerably exacerbated if insolubles are present.
