Contains the essence of calculation procedures for determining the magnitude and chronological progress of settlements of a structure. In so doing, it is limited to procedures for calculating perpendicular settlements of foundations caused by compression or deformation of the subsoil in the case of perpendicular central loading for the limiting cases of slack or rigid structures having an adequate safety factor against shear failure in accordance with DIN 1054. It does not, however, deal with settlements caused by the flow of ground water, vibrations, the effects of temperature, drying out of the soil or mining operations, nor to heave.
