Explanatory notes

A sound knowledge of petrographic characteristics of the rock material or mineral to be examined is required when testing natural stone and mineral aggregates. A petrographic examination will normally be expected to cover the mineral composition, the fabric (including the granulometric properties), and the chemical composition. Provides information on the common methods of petrographic examination (cf. Table 1), which are to be selected to suit the objective of the particular investigation. Expert assistance will be required to perform the analyses and to evaluate the results.
