Der vorliegende Teil der IEC 60793 gilt für drei Verfahren zur Messung der Polarisationsmodendispersion (PMD), die in Abschnitt 3 beschrieben werden. In diesem Teil werden einheitliche Anforderungen für die Messung der PMD von Einmodenfasern festgelegt, die der Überprüfung von Fasern und Kabeln für kommerzielle Zwecke dienen. Die Begriffe in diesem Dokument sind in ITU-T G.650.2 definiert und in IEC 61282-9 näher erläutert.
