Die Norm gilt für Thermolumineszenz-Dosimetriesysteme, die die Personendosen Hp(10) und Hp(0,07) sowie Ortsdosen H(10) für Photonen- und Betastrahlung im Dosisbereich von 0,01 mSv bis 10 Sv messen. Die Systeme arbeiten üblicherweise mit Software, wofür diese Norm ebenfalls Anforderungen enthält. Sie setzt die Vorgaben von ICRU 51, ISO 'Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement' sowie bezüglich der Bezugs-Strahlenfelder die Normenreihen ISO 4037 und ISO 6980 um.
