La présente Norme européenne spécifie une méthode de routine pour l'analyse du cuivre et des alliages de cuivre par spectrométrie d'émission optique par étincelle (SEO-E). La méthode est applicable à tous les éléments généralement présents dans le cuivre et les alliages de cuivre, comme impuretés ou comme constituants mineurs ou principaux, hormis le cuivre, et détectables par SEO-E.
