La présente norme a pour objet de définir les termes particuliers propres à l'exploitation, la préparation et l'utilisation des roches marbrières pour les travaux de décoration de bâtiment et pour l'ameublement. Elle fixe les termes les plus employés en France dans le bâtiment pour les travaux de décoration en revêtements et dallages intérieurs et extérieurs, revêtements d'escaliers et en ameublement. Les termes particuliers propres à l'exploitation, la préparation et l'utilisation des pierres calcaires pour construction de bâtiment et ouvrages d'art sont fixés par ailleurs dans la norme NF B 10-101 'Pierres calcaires: vocabulaire'.
