Diese ÖVE/ÖNORM legt Leistungsspezifikationen für faseroptische 1 300-nm-Sende- und Empfangsmodule für Gigabit-Ethernet- Anwendungen nach ISO/IEC 8802-3 fest. Die Norm enthält Definitionen bezüglich der Anforderungen an die Leistungsfähigkeit des Produktes zusammen mit einer Reihe von Prüfungen und Messungen unter klar definierten Bedingungen, Prüfschärfen und Annahme-/Ablehnungskriterien. Es wird angestrebt, die Prüfungen auf Basis des einmaligen Ausfalls durchzuführen, um damit die Leistungsfähigkeit des Produktes bezüglich der Anforderungen des Leistungsstandards sicherzustellen.
