La norma stabilisce i metodi per la determinazione della capacità di fonoassorbimento negli ambienti chiusi nel campo di frequenza da 100 Hz a 5000 Hz. Vengono stabiliti due diversi metodi a seconda che si voglia determinare il valore del decadimento temporale del campo sonoro o la legge di decadimento dell'energia all'aumento della distanza dalla sorgente sonora.
