Sets out methods for the preparation of aluminium ore samples for physical and chemical testing. Aspects of on-line sampling are covered in the Standard. Sample preparation covers drying, mixing, particle size reduction and division. This Standard should be read in conjunction with the aluminium ore Standards AS 2806.1. Aluminium ores - Sampling - Sampling procedures.

This standard sets out the methods for the preparation of samples of aluminium ore collected in accordance with the procedures specified in AS 2806.1 and AS 2806.2. Sample preparation covers drying, mixing, particle size reduction and division, and may be performed in several stages.AS 2806.1 deals with the sampling of aluminium ore from moving streams, and some on-line sampling installations perform part of the sample preparation. Aspects of on-line sample preparation are covered in that standard.The object of sample preparation is to produce a sample suitable for analysis or testing which is representative of the original sample. This standard describes methods for the preparation of samples for the following procedures: (a) Determination of moisture or physical testing. (b) Chemical analysis where a sample prepared to a nominal top size of 150 mm is suitable. The mass of the chemical analysis sample depends upon the determinations required. A minimum mass of 50 g is recommended.
