    Sets out procedures to measure the ability of air cleaning devices to remove dust as they become loaded with a standard synthetic dust. The dust removal performance is measured in two ways: ASHRAE weight arrestance (the percentage of the weight of the synthetic dust captured by the filter) and ASHRAE dust spot efficiency (comparing the blackening of targets both downstream and upstream of the air cleaning device using ambient atmospheric dust). The procedures do not measure the ability of the air cleaner to remove particles of specific diameters. Not meant for testing air cleaners that show ASHRAE dust spot efficiencies of over 98%.
