Describes the concept of ensuring electrical safety in hazardous areas by using protection 'i': intrinsic safety, and gives advice on the installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus and systems, which (in hazardous areas) are protected in accordance with this type of protection. This part of the code only considers explosion risks due to the presence of vapours and flammable gases. Excludes combustible dusts. Also includes detailed definitions together with explanations of terms.
