Gives methods for sampling, preparation and prior to testing binder pitch used in the manufacture of electrodes for the electrolytic production of aluminium. For grades of pitch in liquid or solid form, having softening points higher than 30 Degrees C in bulk, or in one batch in multi containers at sites of manufacture, storage, or delivery. Includes sample size reduction, sample containers, and sampling apparatus. Illustrates typical cutting bits for sampling drill, open ended and closed end sampling spear, typical sample auger, water cooled dip rod, weighted sampling can, pipeline sampler, ladle, riffle for sample size reduction of material with particle size of approximate diameter 5 mm, sampling plate, and punners.
