    Describes requirements for the design and construction of in situ and precast concrete parapets designed to provide levels of containment for vehicles on highways. The requirements for minimum panel length and for the prevention of composite action with the main structure limit the direct application in the case of bridge decks to those of 7.5m and greater span. Parapets designed to act compositely as part of the main structure, prestressed concrete parapets, parapets of metal construction and parapets of combined concrete and metal design are excluded.
