The method described serves to determine the carbon residue and the distillation residue of the petroleum products referred to in clause 1. The amount of carbon residue provides information on the chemical behaviour of petroleum products under given conditions. This also permits conclusions to be drawn on the tendency of diesel fuels to clog injection nozzles of diesel engines, of fuel oils to coke vaporizing burners, and of lubricating oils to form deposits.
