The method specified serves to determine changes in mass and/or changes in the properties of bitumen (e.g. rise in softening point or a reduction in needle penetration) following exposure to heat and simultaneous supply of air. The method is also applicable to bituminous binders such as road tar and pitch-bitumen mixtures.
