La norma definisce le forze manuali e il metodo di calcolo da utilizzare per dimensionare l'elemento di manovra per tutti i tipi di valvole industriali. Le forze manuali che una persona può applicare a un elemento di manovra (volantino o leva) sono essenzialmente indipendenti dal tipo di valvola e dipendono dalla persona che fa funzionare la valvola nonché dalla sua posizione rispetto all'elemento di manovra.
