La norma stabilisce i requisiti di comportamento per la protezione catodica dell'acciaio nel calcestruzzo esposto all'atmosfera, sia in strutture nuove sia in strutture già esistenti. Riguarda le parti esposte all'atmosfera di edifici e strutture di ingegneria civile, sia per le armature usuali sia per quelle precompresse incorporate nel calcestruzzo. La norma applicabile alle armature in acciaio senza rivestimento e a quelle in acciaio con rivestimento organico. La norma non trova applicazione per gli elementi interrati o sommersi di edifici o strutture.
