La norma specifica i requisiti prestazionali per capi di abbigliamento costruiti con materiali flessibili che sono progettati per proteggere il corpo del portatore, ad eccezione delle mani, dal calore e/o dalla fiamma. Per la protezione della testa e dei piedi, gli unici articoli di abbigliamento di protezione che rientrano nello scopo e campo di applicazione della norma sono le ghette, i cappucci ed i copristivali. Comunque, per quanto concerne i cappucci, non sono forniti requisiti per le visiere e l'equipaggiamento per la respirazione.
