Diese Norm für Bauartspezifikationen liefert die Grundlage für ein einheitliches Verfahren zur Erlangung eines internationalen Sicherheitszeichens. Er setzt den Prüfplan zur Bauartzulassung für Sicherheitsprüfungen aus IEC 60384 14 um und verlangt eine Aufbaubeschreibung für sicherheitsrelevante Eigenschaften. Ferner schreibt er Konformitätskontrollen vor, die an jedem Los vor dessen Auslieferung durchzuführen sind, sowie die erneute Anerkennung der Bauart abhängig von Änderungen der erklärten Aufbaus.
