This standard is included in DIN Handbook 44. Wire rope grips are intended for producing temporary rope terminations, where these are subject to safety requirements, i.e. where failure of the rope termination could endanger persons or property (see Explanations). Wire rope grips must not be used as hoist ropes in mines, in rope drives for cranes in steel works and rolling mills or for permanent fastening of ropes in other rope drives, designed in accordance with DIN 15020 Part 1. Nor must they be used for rope terminations for load suspension devices in the operation of lifting appliances, except in the case of lifting tackles where these are produced for a special application and are not reused.
