Outlines Telcordia's view on generic reliability requirements for fiber optic transport network elements (NEs) and systems; it complements other Telcordia generic requirement documents (GRs) that supply common and system-specific feature, function, and performance (FFP) criteria. This document gives proposed criteria applicable to all fiber optic transport NEs and systems, as well as other types of NEs with fiber optic interfaces used in interoffice or loop applications. The purpose of this GR is to give a concise reference of reliability/quality assurance criteria applicable to any of these fiber optic products; and is aimed at an equipment supplier's design engineering, manufacturing, and reliability/quality organizations.
