Gives a method to determine butadiene monomer in polymers. Applies to acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and to high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) as well as other 1,3-butadiene polymers and copolymers where these are soluble in N,N-dimethylacetamide or finely dispersed, swollen suspensions in N,N-dimethylacetamide. The determined level of 1,3-butadiene monomer is expressed as milligrams of 1,3-butadiene per kilogram of polymer. This is an appropriate method for the quantitative determination of 1,3-butadiene at a level of 0,1 mg/kg in the polymer.
