Il existe de nombreuses méthodes pour mesurer l'énergie alpha potentielle volumique des descendants à vie courte du radon 222 dans l'atmosphère (méthodes de mesure ponctuelle, en continu, intégrée). Le présent document concerne uniquement les méthodes de mesure ponctuelle des descendants à vie courte du radon 222. Il donne des indications pour mesurer ponctuellement, après un échantillonnage de quelques minutes en un point donné, l'énergie alpha potentielle volumique des descendants à vie courte du radon 222 dans une atmosphère libre (extérieur) ou confinée (bâtiments), en vue d'une évaluation rapide et donne les conditions d'utilisation des dispositifs de mesure.
