Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Provides specific requirements for portable non-rechargeable fire extinguishers limited to 2.0 kg or 2.0 L in size. General requirements for portable fire extinguishers are given in Part 1.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard specifies the requirements for portable, non-rechargeable, stored-pressure type fire extinguishers.Non-rechargeable fire extinguishers have been limited to 2.0 kg or 2.0 L in size, as units of this type are considered primarily suitable for use in domestic and other allied areas (i.e. homes, caravans, boats and the like). Doubts relating to the long-term efficiency and safety of such units exist if they are used or kept beyond the specified discard date. However, monitoring of field experience will be carried out, reviewed every two years and, if satisfactory, the limitation on size will be reconsidered.
