Bellcore's view of proposed generic criteria covering Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and electrical safety necessary for equipment to perform reliably and safely in a typical BCC network environment. The system-level EMC generic criteria presented are intended to help avoid equipment damage and malfunction because of lightning, 60-Hz commercial power fault conditions, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), operation in a steady-state induced voltage environment and operation in the presence of a dc potential difference. Other criteria are presented that are intended to help to establish that equipment will not become a fire or electrical safety hazard in the presence of severe lightning or 60-Hz commercial power fault conditions.
